Pascal Cornier

For as far back as he can remember, Pascal Corner always held a camera. The first was an Instamatic 25. Some people thought he took unusual photos, photos of stems of flowers through vases, for example.

1978. A decisive photo: 2 female friends in a wood, slightly back-lit, using highly sensitive film, a colored stocking in front of the lens for a blurred effect. At this moment, he decided to become a photographer. He was influenced by Maisel and Roïter, in terms of their approach, conception of image, and use of color.

1981.  He was independent, working for various companies, essentially in construction, including Bouygues. Its founder, Francis Bouygues, had decided to recruit a young photographer to develop the corporate image of his business, a great challenge Pascal was only too keen to accept. At that time, Bouygues was very different: in a world of engineers, he was the only artist.  He cultivated this difference for 20 years.

Throughout his travels, he photographed skies from all over the world. While he loved this work with color, it was essentially unsatisfying to him. For years thereafter, he was unable to take a single art photo and assumed that his days as an artistic photographer were over.

2005.  Steni Valla, a small port in the Alonnisos Island, Greece.  Early morning is Pascal’s favorite time. He always gets up early and enjoys the calm and the serenity of early morning.  As he was walking on the wharf, he suddenly saw color, movement being shaped and unshaped, transformed.  Inspiration returned and continues unabated.

Pascal has become a painter who uses photography as his medium. The color in his photographs is unenhanced.  He has been exhibiting regularly in Paris and Lebanon since 2008.
